What you will find on the first section or the front of the program is a photo of the deceased, their full legal name, including nicknames shown in parenthesis. The date of birth or often referred to as “sunrise” and date of death or “sunset” is also noted . It is optional if you want to include the other funeral logistics such as the place of the service, time, and date. If there is not enough room based on the background design you are using, then this information can be omitted from the cover and placed on the order of service page.
You can place any type of front cover title such as “In Loving Memory or “A Celebration of Life” above the photo of the deceased, if desired. Alternatively, you may also just eliminate that altogether and use the name as the main highlighted text on the front.
It is not uncommon for employers to accept funeral programs as proof of an attendance or participation in a funeral service. If you are taking funeral leave from work and are speaking or participating in a service, make sure your name is noted inside the program.
The second page or section can contain the obituary or biography of the deceased. You can make include the place of birth, siblings, and parent information. The biography flow is generally done in chronological order of major events of the life of the deceased. Marriage, children, military service, volunteer, and career information can all be noted in this section.
