I just returned home from a friend’s funeral service. The memorial bereavement poems and funeral songs we sung at the service were very heartwarming and touching. It was reminiscent of her spirit and beliefs. I kept the funeral program and will probably do so forever. I don’t have the heart to through things like that away.

A memorial society is an entity that gives information to the surviving family when they lose a loved one. They can give advice on legal matters and what paperwork is involved from the death. Funeral homes often work with the memorial society so if you employ one, chances are they will already be working with a society.
You can also find one in your local community or state. Just search online or look at your government website for some recommendations. Memorial societies are non-profit organizations and do not work for profit. They are generally a volunteer organization or government run. You may need to join a membership in a memorial society but the fees for membership are very minimal. Being a member means you can tell your wishes to your family and the memorial society will make sure that it gets carried out just as you expected or conveyed it to be.
